Technical Issues
PC/Windows
Your Voice: An Inside View and Resonance in Singing will run correctly on the vast majority of
PC computers built since 2000. In the isolated circumstances in which problems
occur, the cause will generally fall into one of these categories:
- Multimedia support files not working because of issues with drive
conflicts
- Multimedia support files not working because of issues with QuickTime
configuration
- Program not running correctly because of older operating systems and/or
insufficient computer resources
- Program not functioning because of defective CD media (disk will not work
at all—contact Inside View Press immediately to arrange for delivery of a
replacement)
- In very rare instances, Your Voice: An Inside View will not run
because of a missing support file (you will receive an error message
relating to a missing file called iml32.dll).
If you receive this message, go to http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_19304
to download the needed file, which will immediately correct the problem.
- Some CD-ROMs bearing the designation PB071705 may be unreadable
when used in some DVD or CD/DVD combination drives. These disks run
correctly in optical drives that only read CD-ROMs. If you received one of
these disks, please contact Inside View Press to receive an immediate
replacement.
- The CD provided with the Inside View text is a computer disk: if
you try to use it in an audio CD player or a DVD movie player, it will not
work!
If you are unable to correct your technical issues by any of the methods
described below, please contact Inside View Press directly at support@voiceinsideview.com
for assistance.
64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista
As of July, 2008, there is an unresolved compatibility issue between
QuickTime 7.5 and 64-bit versions of Windows software. This is not an Inside
View Press issue. When using these versions of Windows, videos imbedded in
the both the Inside View and Resonance in Singing host programs
will feature a black bar across the area at the bottom of the video window where
the controls would normally appear. The videos will still function if you click
in the place where the "play" button should be (about 0.5cm from the
bottom left corner of the video window), but you will not see the actual
control.
Drive Conflicts (program version that installs to the hard drive)
Multimedia portions of the program will only work correctly if the program is
installed to the default drive and directory specified by the Setup program
(C:\In_View). If you changed either the directory name or the drive to which the
program is installed (such as a network drive or a secondary hard drive in a
computer with multiple hard drives), audio and video portions of the program
cannot be displayed. To correct this problem, first run the uninstall program (start
/ all programs / Your Voice / Uninstall Your Voice), and
then reinstall the program to the default destination drive and directory.
Drive Conflicts, version that runs from the CD-ROM, including
library & academic editions
(only applicable to copies purchased prior to February 1, 2005)
The program is designed to run directly from the CD-ROM, which must be
designated as drive D:\ by your computer system (restriction to the D:\ drive
was eliminated for disks shipped after February 1, 2005). The vast majority of PCs that
have a single hard drive designate D:\ as the optical (CD or DVD) drive. If you
are unsure as to the letter designation of your optical drive, click start
/ my computer / and look for drives under the heading devices with
removable storage: your optical drive will be included on this list, along
with a letter designation (usually D:\, but possibly something else).
Computers with multiple hard drives—or a single drive with multiple
partitions—sometimes reserve D:\ as the designation for a secondary local hard
disk and identify the optical drive by another letter name. In these cases, Your
Voice: An Inside View will appear to run normally, but multimedia
files (audio and video) will not function. To correct this problem, you must
copy the multimedia support files to the D:\ drive on your computer as follows:
- Insert the Inside View CD-ROM disk into your optical drive.
The program will start automatically—exit the program directly from the
opening screen by clicking the exit button or pressing the Escape
key on your keyboard.
- View the contents of the CD-ROM by opening a Windows Explorer window and
selecting your optical drive, or by clicking on start / my
computer and then double-clicking on your optical drive.
- Copy (click and drag) the folders "support" and
"support2" from the CD-ROM to your hard drive or partition that is
designated D:\. You must copy the entire folders to the main
directory tree of the D:\ drive. If they are copied inside another folder or
renamed, Inside View will not work correctly.
- If you are uncomfortable copying these folders by yourself, contact Inside
View Press by email and we will send you a batch file to automatically copy
the files to the correct location.
QuickTime Configuration Issues
Multimedia content in Your Voice: An Inside View requires QuickTime
7.5 (or later) to be installed and correctly configured on your computer. On
rare occasions, people who have installed the current version of QuickTime are
still unable to access the audio portions of Chapter 1. This problem is
typically solved by modifying the QuickTime configuration. Presuming the correct
version of QuickTime is already installed, open a QuickTime window (start /
all programs / QuickTime / QuickTime Player), and then click
on Edit and select Preferences and then QuickTime Preferences.
Select the option File Type Associations from the drop down menu and then
click on the File Types button. Click the check box next to the heading Audio
- Audio only file formats and then make sure wave audio file is
checked. Next, click MPEG - MPEG system, video, and audio files and
verify that MPEG media file and MPEG-4 media file are both
selected. Finally, click MP3 - MPEG layer III movies and streams and
verify that MP3 audio file is selected. When you have verified all these
aspects, click on OK and then exit the QuickTime Settings window.
General Operating System and Computer Resource Issues
Your Voice: An Inside View is only guaranteed to run correctly on
computers using Microsoft Windows XP (home or professional), NT or 2000. Systems
that are still running Windows Me or 98 might be sufficiently robust to
display the program, but are likely to encounter significant delays and overall
poor performance. Some multimedia components might not function even if the
remainder of the disk operates correctly. The program will not run under Windows
95. If you purchased the program for use on a computer with an operating system
prior to Windows 2000/NT and it does not run correctly, you may return it to
Inside View Press within 30 days of the original purchase for a full refund
(minus shipping & handling). Contact support@voiceinsideview.com
for a return merchandise authorization prior to shipping the disk and book.
Macintosh OS-X
New Issue only Impacting a small number of Your Voice OS-X Disks
Error message: Choose a File / Where is "Chapter 3.dir"?
Disks bearing the lot number PB110207 (found
at the bottom center of the disk, under the heading "Version 1.2")
were compiled without a file that is required to view the "Quick
Reference" version of Chapter 3. This flaw only applies to the OS-X version
of the program on the hybrid disk—the Windows version runs correctly. In OS-X,
the examples from this chapter can still be viewed using the funcion
"Examples Keyed to Printed Text" from the main program screen.
If you purchased a disk from batch PB110207 for use with OS-X and are unable
to access Chapter 3, please complete and submit the form below to request a
complimentary replacement.
All Mac disks are designed to run directly from the CD-ROM and no problems
have been reported when using program versions written specifically for Mac
OS-X. If your disk fails to operate correctly, it is almost certainly defective
and will need to be replaced. Contact support@voiceinsideview.com
to request a replacement disk, which will be shipped immediately at no charge.
Performance of the program can be slightly improved by copying the file
"Mac Inside View" from the Inside View CD-ROM, or "Mac
Resonance" from the Resonance in Singing CD-ROM to
your Mac's hard drive. You must still have the original CD-ROM inserted in your
computer's optical drive, however, to access multimedia content.
VoceVista software is not compatible with Mac operating systems. It will,
however, run correctly on Apple computers that use Intel processors, provided
Windows is installed through BootCamp, Parallels, Fusion, or similar
partitioning program.
Macintosh OS-9
Inside View Press no longer supports program versions specific to OS-9.
Macintosh computers that are still using OS-9 can only run the (discontinued)
version of Inside
View that is specifically written for that OS. Even so, some advanced
program features might not function on all computers. OS-9 support for Your
Voice: An Inside View was discontinued in 9/2005. We no longer offer a
reduced price upgrade path from this program version.
